Load testing and analysis of wheat silos
The given silos are made of a hybrid structure including a steel structure of ribs and shells and a concrete structure of pile cap and pile-foundation. Each silo's load carrying capacity is approximately 3000 to 3200 tons of wheat. As being used, cracks appeared and visualized from the bottom of the pile cap. Thus, crack mapping, reinforcement scanning, load carrying capacity and analysis of the selected silo were conducted to verify the load path, load distribution to the silo perimeter via silo steel ribs, and the uniformly distributed load on the pile cap; verify the design and construction stages of the RC structure, and to determine the correct parameters for the design of new silos.
