Post Tensioned Slab Load Testing
A building under construction experienced cracks on its post-tensioned slab. The structural capacity was questionable for a designed live load of 400 kg/m2 and a super imposed dead load of 250 kg/m2. Thus, a load test was conducted to determine the actual floor capacity. Dial gauges and displacement transducers were installed to monitor floor deflections. The dynamic data logging system was also used to monitor real-time elastic floor deformation. Then, signs of plastic deformation shown by the dynamic data logging system or the exceedance of floor deflection were compared to allowable maximum deflection of the given floor.
The results showed that the floor was sufficiently strong based on the given design loads, and its deflection was within the limit provided by ACI recommendation.
